To qualify for the Canada Greener Homes Loan, you must:
Be a Canadian resident who owns and lives in the home.
Have a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation completed on or after April 1, 2020 by a certified energy auditor.
Meet the program’s credit requirements.
Apply before starting any work — retrofits already in progress or not recommended in your evaluation are not eligible.
Loan Amount: $5,000 minimum, $40,000 maximum.
Repayment Term: Up to 10 years, interest-free.
Loan Type: Unsecured personal loan (on approved credit).
Up to 15% of the loan can be advanced if a deposit is required, with the remaining balance released after project completion and verification.
Apply before starting work; retrofits started before your application is submitted are ineligible. If you begin work before approval, you will be responsible for all costs if the application is declined.
Ensure all documents are complete and accurate; missing or incorrect information will delay processing.
Include all planned retrofits in your initial application; you cannot add new retrofits later. If you remove items, your loan amount will be adjusted and must remain at least $5,000 to qualify.
Provide clear contractor quotes showing the costs for eligible energy-efficient upgrades.
