Why is my furnace blowing cold air?
Some furnaces are set up to run the fan 24/7, and the air that blows out of them during the off cycle can feel cool due to the velocity. If your house is maintaining the temperature set point, there is no need for concern, however if it is not keeping up, an HVAC technician should be called to assess.

What is the difference between high efficiency and standard efficiency furnaces?
High efficiency furnaces use much more of the heat energy from the gas that they burn. A good way to look at this is percentage of efficiency compared to pennies in a dollar. With a standard efficiency furnace (average 60% efficient) 40 cents out of every dollar is escaping out of the exhaust. A high efficiency furnace on the other hand uses 90-98 cents of every dollar spent converting the heat energy into heat in your home. The exhaust temperature is so low on these furnaces, that they need to be vented with plastic pipe, allowing the exhaust gases that have condensed into water vapour to flow back into the furnace and out of the home through the drain.
What is two-stage heating?
Two stage heating is a furnace with essentially 2 speeds. Rather than running at a full firing rate whenever there is a need for heat, it can operate at a low speed if only a small increase in temperature is required. This means less gas burned, and more money saved. Even better than a 2 stage furnace is a variable capacity furnace which when paired with a variable capacity heat pump can offer up to 56 stages of heating. Talk about savings!
Should outdoor units be covered in winter?
Outdoor units are designed to withstand the elements, however a cover can keep an air conditioner looking brand new for much longer if it is utilized during the winter months. Don’t make the mistake of putting a cover on your heat pump though – as these are designed to run all year long!
What is the benefit of having a heat pump?
A heat pump offers many benefits including a more even temperature throughout the home, a smaller carbon footprint, and increased efficiency (if set up properly).
What is the difference between a heat pump and a furnace?
A furnace burns natural gas to create heat, where a heat pump uses electricity to extract heat energy out of the outside air, and convert it to heat inside your home.
What temperature should I set my thermostat?
It comes down to whether you prefer comfort or efficiency. Most people set their temperature around 70F or 21C – but the decision is ultimately up to you!
How do I know what size air conditioning unit I need for my home?
